If you watch the news you know that life appears to be in a tumultuous downward spiral for many across the planet. No matter the realm; social, political, religious, commerce, industry, even neighborly coexistence. We live in an era when many people are, or believe they are ‘pretty much on their own.’ If responses in constant flux day to day were as easy to react to as social media exchanges, life would be grand. The truth is global life for much of the world is mired in survival efforts as never before, considering the scope of advancements in our post modern life. Be it physical or mental health, economics, job or career, even the strain of relationships are being pushed to breaking points at steady rates. It’s easy to get caught up in today’s news cycles of promoted lies, fabrications and deceptions. Who can we trust? Really trust? John Donne wrote, “No man is an island” but in today’s world of craven attitudes we are often hard pressed to rely on anyone other than ourselves. We have advanced in technical knowledge and technological applications, yet our reactions of inhumanity toward one another is operating at full tilt day after day. It's as if we are reverting to a time of provincial kingdoms and fiefdoms once again. For many, the only 'growth' experienced is into their own shells as distrust extends to those we once put our confidence in. We discover the first and foremost thoughts occupying many minds revolve around personal avarice focused exclusively on increasing revenue streams, material possessions and celebrity, often without moral or ethical considerations. Ever-changing world event consequences generated by decisions great and small take place simultaneously around the world. Establishing a spiritual base is the one hedge that can bolster understanding, bring balance, and impart a new burgeoning perspective. Spiritual grounding reveals the truth behind decisions and actions, both ours and those of others. Everything is grounded in truth. Truth illuminates choices and reveals answers. Access to the truth is free and available. Those seeking or searching for a spiritual path must first accept that the world is adamantly on its own trajectory, moving away from the spiritual. Although these two coexist, their design and purposes are essentially at odds. Think of it as a model of the expanding universe from the moment of the “Big Bang". The ‘material’ speeds away from the origin of the non-physical. Yet both are necessary for God’s planned acknowledgment of Him and His purposed redemption of us. We live at perhaps the most inauspicious time in history. The world before has never experienced life at its pinnacle and then, were alive to watch its own cascading crash. Yes, history has had its ebbs and flows of empires and civilizations. However, never in human history has its reach, expansion and advancement moved the human species further forward at such an astonishing pace. The majority of ‘modern day’ leaps having occurred primarily in the Age of Enlightenment, followed by the Industrial Age and now the Information Age. Our lives are very different from the many generations who’ve come and gone before. They faced their end. Our future has us confronting ‘the end.’ How do we know this? Our spirit verifies for us that this is true. There is an innate validation for each of us, should we choose to seek it. But how does our spirit know? The essence of our being is spirit, occupying an electrical energy ‘unit.’ Conception produces a soul for our spirit to now occupy, completing mind, body, and soul together. We all come into the world naked and alone. Yet we all arrive with a spirit. The journey is different for every living soul, but the lessons in life are the same. We each have different experiences, choices, decisions, and consequences. The fundamentals of who we are as moral and ethical beings is spiritually embedded in our soul. This gives each of us a place on an equal moral and ethical playing field to start, (which is short lived). The nurture/nature aspects of our lives are determinably manifested in our physical lives. We, as spirited souls are equal, our existence however spans a spectrum of innumerable possibilities. Think of your moral and ethical responses as the starting gate of the gauntlet you are entering. Every experience may be uniquely yours, but at your core, at my core, at every human core exists the innate spiritual awareness of “right and wrong” couched and coached in a subconsciousness of moral and ethical responses. Join me next time, as we go a little further down the path.
