Everyone says "I Should Write a Book"

At a recent dental appointment, my hygienist mentioned that her father was interested in writing a book (his memoir), which he wants published posthumously. She then asked if I had any advice she might pass on to him? I explained that this endeavor, which might not be difficult for her father, may prove extremely challenging for the member of her family to whom this project is left for completion.

Getting and being publishing is not difficult, but can be intense and very task oriented. There are steps which must be taken and completed within given frameworks in order for a manuscript to go from paper to paperback or hard cover finished book.

Having an idea or story to share is the foundational effort in publishing. The journey from paper to saleable tome is one requiring concerted tenacity and contemplation. Every author who ventures the publishing pathway possesses a passion which while being singular in direction and purpose may not be evident or easy to accomplish by another, particularly to an uninitiated novice to the process.

Having spent the last dozen years wading through the turbulent waters of today’s publishing process and its competitive marketplace while experiencing frustrating and sometimes costly mistakes, we have honed the steps necessary for successful publishing and product placement.  Using the services of a ‘Vanity Press’ for our first book at a cost of $2500 enabled us to learn the legal and production requirements to take a manuscript to finished book formats available through retailers such as Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Tower, Virgin, Target, Books-A-Million, Smashwords and others. This decade long journey has taught and helped us experience the highs and lows of publishing. Knowing the hurdles and obstacles, hand-in-hand with growing marketing opportunities has shown us how to reach readers successfully worldwide. Our production costs have been pared down to $250, one-tenth of our original investment.

As I indicated to my hygienist, once the steps have been mastered, virtually anyone can complete the effort to have his or her book actually printed and positioned for sale. I invited her father to prepare and complete all the steps necessary to make his dream a reality, with the final publication more easily tackled and accomplished by her or one of her siblings. By perusing the free preview of my “Pathways To Publishing” eBook, he can better acquaint himself with the basics of today’s publishing.

If you are a writer, or know one who has been told, “You Should Write a Book”, perhaps you should take a look as well, or forward this blog to your friend.  Every successful author once had a dream. Learning the steps to make that dream a reality was all that was missing. The steps which cut my publication costs by ninety percent are available in “Pathways To Publishing”. Check out the free preview.

I’ll be looking for your book at Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

In the Hawaiian language,  "Mana'o" (ma na o) is the word used to describe 'thoughts, ideas, and opinions'.
Since the beginning of my professional writing career, Mana'o has been the impetus for expression, so it only seems appropriate to combine Mana'o and a blog spot on our web site.  Please feel free to read and join the discussions and comments posted here.
