Writing in Multiple Genres

Branch,
Your work sounds very interesting because you write in four different genres - I'm intrigued by an author who can write both spiritual books and erotica! How can this be?

Trish T., North
Carolina

Thanks for your question Trish. Yes, at first that combination may seem a bit at odds, but is it really? An old adage for authors says, "Write what you know about."

Although my work is primarily presented as short story content, which comes out as poetry pieces, my subject matter and characters cover broad issues and emotions, specific common behavior traits and wide relationship swings. These include spirituality and sexuality both of which are active, and activities, in many - if not most readers. We each have the potential to be both sexual and spiritual beings. The manner and depth to which we express our humanity is an individual choice. As a writer, I simply observe and comment on the activities, nuances, motivations and behavior of the world around me by its inhabitants.

As an author, I attempt to connect with different readers on different levels by addressing and exploring areas of interest for different reading groups, i.e. poetry, spirituality, erotica, and self-help publishing. One aspect of my job as a writer is to entice and encourage my reading fan base to remove the mask and blinders and see their world in all its truth; good, not-so-good, and ugly. The world is not black or white, and neither are we as individuals. I believe it is the writer's duty to join his readers on the path and share thoughts, ideas and opinions. As I said in a recent interview, 'My readers and I are the same, I just happen to write it down.'

My works are not for everyone. This brief analysis is described on the home page of this web site as to what visitors may expect to read and not. My content is for the individual reader who doesn't always 'toe the line'.

I don't believe in censorship (other than "self censorship"). If you don't agree or like something, don't go there. Change the channel, read something else, but allow those who wish to explore their world without doing harm, the opportunity to do so. It is with this mindset that I try to look, experience, and write about the vast variety, commonalities, and differences we share.

I hope you'll explore both the spiritual and the erotic offerings of our catalogue.

In the Hawaiian language,  "Mana'o" (ma na o) is the word used to describe 'thoughts, ideas, and opinions'.
Since the beginning of my professional writing career, Mana'o has been the impetus for expression, so it only seems appropriate to combine Mana'o and a blog spot on our web site.  Please feel free to read and join the discussions and comments posted here.
