Tempered Temptations

A weighted shard of ragged edged molten metal

The cast iron wedge of the world

is driven into the heart of the believer

with each compelling nuance

to become one with God

Peace disrupted

Satan’s ranks laugh at our inept attempts

to declare allegiance to our Lord

They bow down to the one

who,

with a mere waggle of his finger

draws nigh those on the precipice point

balancing self and selfless

They laud his presence and persistence

knowing condemnation awaits

yet to bask momentarily with him

in his temporal glory

over one of God’s own

is worth every minute of eternal damnation

How strong is such a force

that all material sins bend to honor him

and yet to do battle

on our own behalf

all we are given is free will to choose
